Focus on Fiber Campaign
Almost all U.S. children fail to consume the minimum recommended amount of fiber and our health is suffering as a result. Skyrocketing rates of preventable chronic illnesses like heart disease, type-2 diabetes, and high cholesterol are affecting people younger than ever before.
That's why Balanced launched our Focus on Fiber campaign to spread awareness and inspire action leading to stronger nutrition policies in our schools and communities.
Tell the USDA it's Time to Focus on Fiber
Balanced's Fiber Campaign is calling on USDA to:
(1) implement a Dietary Specification (i.e., minimum standard) for fiber in school meals
(2) increase the minimum requirements for whole grains, legumes, and vegetables
(3) disallow fruit juice to count toward the fruit meal component
(4) mandate a minimum seat time of at least 20 minutes at lunch to give students enough time to finish their meals. This question is required.*
